When I lived in Germany in the 1980’s, I worked with an artisan, Gunther, who taught me the beauty of slab sculpting, which I do to this day.
I started sculpting Santos out of stoneware about 20 years ago while working with an Old Town artisan in Albuquerque. I made my first St. Francis for my father, who claimed the statue spoke to him. Clay work started as a hobby and a meditation practice.
One thing led to another and now I show in a handful of galleries. Each statue is unique and meaningful to me. The life of St. Francis, in particular, is inspiring to me. He is the patron saint of Peace and Animals
